Wooden Chess Clock

We currently stock a limited but a very relevant range of chess clocks that suit our various range of chess sets. These clocks are specifically made in Europe by highly recommendable brands in the chess clock industry. We primarily stock 2 brands which we are looking to increase. In regards to the digital clocks, these are in particular manufactured by DGT, who are also well known for their electronic chess board and chess pieces around the world.

Lastly the analog clocks which tend to be the slightly more popular are manufactured by a European giant BHB. Our Analog clocks come with a solid wood housing to ensure a solid base and preventing the clock from tilting or flipping over in an intense game of chess. We have ensured these  clocks are packaged well and correctly to ensure we do not have any breakage in transit to you.

The DGT clocks come in a plastic housing and come directly from DGT themselves with a high quality finish and made perfectly to measure for intense tournament games which require the player to get an exact measure of the time for which they need to make their next chess move.

We at Chessgammon have ensured we only stock the highest of quality clocks to complete the fantastic game of chess. These clocks as most would know need to have the durability to last the final few seconds remaining of a chess game specially if two individuals are playing  a game of ‘Blitz’ chess that require speedy movements.

These clocks are all stored and readily available for dispatch with a click of a few buttons on your side.

Analog Chess Clocks

A vast number of individuals much prefer the analog chess clocks which we have in the wooden format. Unfortunately a large portion of these chess clocks are no longer made in britian or Europe but along with most mass manufacturing, these are imported in from China.

One of the famous and partially well known brands available on the market currently is BHB. BHB is no longer in Germany as once was. The brand is still European and is bought by a Polish company who still apply the final touches to the chess clocks. However a large portion of these chess clocks are actually manufactured in China by various companies.

Our chess clocks are very much available in the light wooden or the dark stained finish. These fantastic pieces are a perfect way to complete a large chess set and can also make the perfect gift to complete set for a family chess fanatic. Unfortunately not the same as the chess boxes we have available, these don’t match the same with the pieces and boxes.

The stained chess clocks tend to suit well with darker sets and the natural wood ofcourse tends to suit better with boxwood and maple boards. Ideally a completely colour co-ordinated chess set would be great and we at Chessgammon try and continually search for products that are aesthetically pleasing.

Importance of Chess Clocks

An established chess player will have good confidence to mention a game of competitive chess cannot commence without the chess clock itself. This is completely true as each player can have a time limit to make their move. Both players are given an equal proportion of the time and as soon as the player 1 has completed their move and presses the timer, this will automatically start the timer for player 2. There are indeed many times and limits in chess. Indeed below we have the common to inform you.

Importance Of Time In The Game Of Chess:

There are indeed a few famous ways where time is important in chess:

1. Blitz Play: Each player in this instance has 5 minutes to make their moves
2. Quick Play: Each player in this instance has 15 minutes to make their moves
3. Rapid Play: Each player in this instance has 30 minutes to make their moves

Tournament limits:

1. Quick Tournament: 90 mins to reach move 40, followed by 30 mins to finish per player
2 Slow Tournament: 120 mins to reach move 40, followed by an extra 60 mins to reach move 60, 40 mins to finish per player

FIDE Tournament: 90 mins to reach move 40, followed by 30 mins to finish per player

Other time limits:

Lightening Round: 10 seconds per move
Hourglass Round: Start with a time limit(e.g. 2 mins per player). Any time lost is added onto opponents clock
Fischer Round: 5 seconds added to clock after every move

Preferences

Indeed many established and profound chess players will usually prefer to player with a clock. Indeed there days it is very common to download an app on your phone to replace the clock itself and indeed one of the reasons the clocks are no longer as popular in the common age incomparison to when time limits were first invented.

Most chess enthusiasts will prefer the analog configuration as players are responsible for the drops in flags with the chess clock. Indeed due to the value of a clock in the analog formation, certain analog with a wooden housing will tend to be more popular.

Indeed these days a digital clock will alot do just the same job an analog clock will do. The clock will have a number of features, more importantly the screen will indeed display the time limits. Sometimes certain chess master may also prefer a digital time, limiting the brain maths they may have to do during an intensive tournament.

Certainly those designed by DGT can connect with interactive chess sets made by DGT that can include a complete set up with a TV to showcase to a wider audience.
